AmeriCorps VISTA at The Farmory
Join the team at The Farmory and NeighborWorks Green Bay as a VISTA member and help us GROW “The Farmory!” The Farmory is a state of the art yellow perch fish hatchery and aquaponics farm that serves the people of Northeast Wisconsin. This VISTA member will work with other leaders to strengthen our indoor farm located in downtown Green Bay! The VISTA members serving with The Farmory and NeighborWorks Green Bay will have an impact on individuals and the community, while gaining excellent experience in the development of a project focused on community, environment, and food sustainability.
Position #1: FarmoryWorks Project Coordinator VISTA
Through innovative and technology rich programs, the FarmoryWorks Project Coordinator VISTA will provide opportunities for the development of job and entrepreneurial skills for people who are living in poverty and/or having difficulty maintaining sustainable income. The VISTA will inspire the next generation to grow food for fun, health and profit. The Farmory will also be an educational tool for the entire community, teaching people about sustainable agriculture practices. The VISTA member serving with The Farmory and NeighborWorks Green Bay will have an impact on individuals and the community, while gaining excellent experience in the development of a project focused on community, environmental, and food sustainability. They will be working with other community leaders who have wide and deep expertise within the various aspects of The Farmory development.
The FarmoryWorks Project Coordinator VISTA will lead the development and coordination of service learning opportunities for individuals in the FarmoryWorks workforce development program at The Farmory. The VISTA will recruit, manage and coordinate service learning opportunities for adults in our workforce development program, an increasing proportion of which shall come from low to moderate income households. The VISTA will work with Farmory staff to develop and implement a formalized Farmory Workforce Development Training Program for our Hatchery Operations and Aquaponics Operations. Increase The Farmory’s organizational capacity to be inclusive to individuals overcoming trauma, including Veterans, victims of domestic violence, or other kinds of trauma, so that we can best meet our organizational goal of reducing poverty and increasing access to locally grown and nutritious food.
Position #2: Education and Outreach VISTA
Through University and community partnerships, The Farmory Education and Outreach VISTA will help The Farmory advance the science and practice of aquaculture and aquaponics in Northeast Wisconsin. Through K-12 and youth organization partnerships, the VISTA will help inspire youth to pursue careers in STEM fields that contribute to sustainable agriculture. The Farmory will also be an educational tool for the entire community, teaching people about sustainable agriculture practices. The VISTA member serving with The Farmory and NeighborWorks Green Bay will have an impact on individuals and the community, while gaining excellent experience in the development of a project focused on community, environmental, and food sustainability. They will be working with other community leaders who have wide and deep expertise within the various aspects of The Farmory development.
The Farmory Education and Outreach VISTA will lead the development of technology rich education and outreach activities to K-12 youth and college students in our community. The VISTA will develop our capacity to scale our tours, field trips, internship, job shadow and remote learning platforms and assist with planning and implementation of events, workshops and conferences that meet the needs of multiple audiences, with the goal of reducing poverty and increasing access to locally grown and nutritious food. The VISTA will also develop partnerships that lead to research and development in aquaculture and facilitate technology transfer to budding entrepreneurs in our community.
Also at NeighborWorks Green Bay! Volunteer Capacity Building VISTA
The Volunteer Capacity Building VISTA member will work with NeighborWorks Green Bay staff and volunteers to increase our capacity as an organization, reducing poverty and increasing our capacity to provide affordable housing. By engaging volunteers, the member will help us build our capacity to serve individuals, families, neighborhoods, and the communities that we serve. The VISTA member will build skills and networks while working with us to serve our customers and create homes and communities.
The Volunteer and Capacity Building VISTA at NeighborWorks Green Bay will work to reduce poverty through affordable and stable housing. 1) Assess the processes and procedures of current volunteer services within NeighborWorks Green Bay. The purpose of the assessment is to refine the process of recruiting, onboarding and managing volunteers, allowing for greater volunteer capacity and identification of new opportunities for volunteer engagement. 2) Recruit at least 20 volunteers to meet client and organizational needs. 3) Create processes that evaluate and highlight the success of the volunteer program.

- Modest living stipend of $513.94 (gross before taxes) bi-weekly payroll for term of service

The ideal Farmory VISTA member should have strong analytical skills and the ability to organize large amounts of information and articulate trends based upon that information. They will be able to work both independently and in groups, actively create an inclusive working environment, be comfortable engaging people from diverse backgrounds, think and act strategically, and respond appropriately to feedback from teammates and collaborating organizations. They should be able to act independently when they are able, but seek guidance when it’s needed. The ideal candidate will have sound computer skills, focusing on Microsoft products, and be adept with virtual learning technology and social media.
Training will be provided through the Corporation for National and Community Service, NeighborWorks Green Bay, and NeighborWorks America. The latter will include an opportunity to attend the National Training Institute, location and date to be determined.
